If you are interested in becoming a trustee, they are usually chosen during May and June. You may submit a name to the Jefferson County Commission or to any Board member. Call the Business Office if you have questions about this process, 631-2051.
Monthly Board meetings begin at 6:30 PM and are open to the public. If a resident of the District would like to bring up an issue at the monthly meeting, please submit the subject to the Fire Department one week prior to the meeting. It will be scheduled on the upcoming meeting agenda. The meetings are held at Station 1 at 3235 Mount Olive Road

Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes
April 17th 2017
The April 17th, 2017 meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Mt. Olive Fire and Rescue District was called to order by President Dwight Sloan. Other board members in attendance were Walter McCarty, Steve Rusk, Phillip Bagwell and Keith Crawford. Also in attendance were Chief Chris Gamble and two firemen. No members of the community were present.
Phillip Bagwell opened the meeting with prayer.
Minutes from March 20th, 2016 meeting was reviewed by all. A motion was made by Keith Crawford and seconded by Phillip Bagwell to approve the minutes. Motion passed.
The financial statements and the monthly budget info were presented by Keith Crawford.
A motion was made Phillip Bagwell and seconded by Walter McCarty to approve the financial statements.
A review of EAREA.
52 calls were responded to with 17 Transports. Average response time was 4:35 77% calls on scene Five minutes or less.
Zac Patterson no longer on roster.(He has moved to Montgomery AL.)
Drug Box is up to date.
Daily work log complete.
Activities log is up to date.
Chief Gamble advised the new fire skid unit should be delivered this week.
He also stated he had applied for a $2500 Walmart community Grant.
If awarded this will be a technology upgrades awarded grant. Dollars will be used to purchase Wireless Boosters for the station, TV for the station day room, and tablets.
Bid request notice for the new Cardiac Monitor will be advertised in the Alabama Messenger. Bids will be opened on Monday May 22nd 7:30 PM.
President Sloan advised MOFD had received a letter from a Mrs. Karen Hester who in resides in Mt. Olive at 6098 Lakeside Dr. She had not claimed the Homestead exemption at the time of the assessment on her property at the tax assessor’s office, resulting in an incorrect tax to M.O.F.D being collected. After a discussion a motion was made by Phillip Bagwell and seconded by Walter McCarty to refund the amount of fires dues billed in error by the Jefferson County Tax collector. Motion passed.
A discussion was held among the board members for the need to purchase a new lawn mower to maintain the grounds at both station 1 & 2. Chief Gamble presented a proposal to purchase a lawn mower package from Safford Equipment. After reviewing several different package options a motion was made by Keith Crawford and seconded by Phillip Bagwell authorizing Chief Gamble to purchase a package not to exceed $4000.00
Package will include a Husqvarna Mower, 5 x 10 utility trailer, Chain Saw, Back Pack blower, & a weed eater.
Chief Gamble was also advised to sell the current owned mower on Govdeals.com
Meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM
Board President Dwight Sloan presents Denise McDuffie an appreciation plaque. Denise accepted on behalf of the City Fultondale Dispatchers. They have handled all our dispatching needs for the last 15 years. The department is now being Dispatched by the Jefferson ounty 911 center in Center Point.
